Dr. Maurice K. Chung, a clinical professor of OB/GYN at the University of Toledo School of Medicine and an adjunct professor of pharmacy at Ohio Northern University, was named the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS) 23rd president. The surgeon, who also contributes to medical universities in China, plans to focus his time as president on spurring more international collaboration so different surgical methods can be examined and techniques can be shared.
“We can learn from our colleagues around the world,” Dr. Chung said in a SLS press release. “SLS has so many international connections and meetings throughout the world, that we gain from those perspectives and benefit from their knowledge. They benefit from us as well.”
He also plans to try to improve understanding of pelvic pain. “In diseases like endometriosis, for example, there can be multiple reasons for pain,” he explained in a press release. “Physician access to education on pain needs to expand so that the many disciplines that treat women’s disease are better able to diagnose and treat correctly.”
