Miami, FL – The finalist for the 2016 SLS Excel Award, representing outstanding contributions to innovations in surgery, was announced today by SLS, the international medical society of minimally invasive surgeons.
The award will honor Dr. Farr Nezhat, adjunct professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine at SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine, for his outstanding contributions to laparoscopy, endoscopy, and minimally invasive surgery. These awards also honor the dedication, technical knowledge and professional acumen required for surgical innovation.
“This year, the advisory board was influenced by Farr’s work in Ovarian cancer,” said Dr. Paul Wetter, founder and chairman of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS) and professor emeritus, University of Miami School of Medicine. “This work, as well as his dedication to other timely issues in gynecology, is, in fact, outstanding.”
Dr. Nezhat is widely known for developing advanced minimally-invasive surgery for gynecologic cancers and benign disease, in which increasingly complex procedures are done without a major incision.
He will be presented at the 2016 MIS Week conference, which draws nearly 1,000 surgeons from around the world, on September 3, 2016, in Boston.
Excel Award nominees are recommended by the SLS National and International Advisory Boards and given to surgeons from diverse specialties and various countries.
